Real Madrid 1-1 Atletico Madrid (Penalty 5 -3)- Real Madrid Wins Champions League – See Player Ratings:

Real Madrid secured an 11th Europeantitle with a victory again, over city rivals Atletico on penalties in the San Siro.

Sergio Ramos had put Real Madrid ahead when he bundled home a Toni Kroos free-kick from close range on 15 minutes, although replays suggested he was offside.

Antoine Griezmann fluffed his lines from 12-yards just after the break, drilling a penalty against the crossbar, and Jan Oblak was twice required to keep Atletico in the game as he saved from Karim Benzema and Ronaldo.

With 11 minutes remaining Atletico grabbed their equaliser with Yannick Carrasco bundling home from close range from Juanfran's cross.

Neither side could strike in extra-time and after seven perfect penalties Juanfran could only hit the post, before Ronaldo made no mistake with his next spot-kick to sink Atletico once again.

Atletico Madrid
Jan Oblak 9 – Made a stunning save from Casemiro’s close range effort after five minutes, saved a one-on-one with Benzema in the second half to keep his side in it and to boot also kept out Ronaldo’s effort late on. Man of the match.

Juanfran 6 – Not at the races at all in either a defensive sense or going forwards in the first period. It was his silly free-kick which led to the goal but looked better in the second half and it was his perfect cross that resulted in the equaliser.

Diego Godin 6 – Did not look his usual assured self – could that have had something to do with the change of central defensive partner? Made one excellent last-ditch tackle on Ronaldo with 20 to go.

Stefan Savic 8 – Brought in ahead of Godin’s usual partner and did well. Was caught the wrong side of Sergio Ramos for the goal, albeit the Spaniard was offside. Missed a gilt-edged chance from a corner in the second period but cleared off the line from Bale to keep the score at 1-1.

Filipe Luis 7 – Looked the side’s best outlet in the first period but was not helped by a lack of movement in the box. Kept on pressing forwards and was solud at the back

Koke 6 – Another who benefitted from the change in formation. Set piece delivery not the best, however.
Gabi 8 – Started to dominate the game in the middle of the park after Kroos’s withdrawal.

Augusto Fernandez 4 – Had a nightmare first half, giving the ball away all too often and was hooked at the break.
Saul Niguez 6 – Anonymous in the first 45 but he came to the party after the break. Started to dictate play in the centre of the field and looked more comfy with the formation switch.

Antoine Griezmann 4 – Isolated and grew visibly frustrated. Fluffed the penalty and tried to do it all himself by dropping deep and taking shots from distance.

Fernando Torres 5 – You wouldn’t have known he was on the pitch until he won the penalty, which to be fair showed his experience. Offered next to nothing apart from that, though. Fluffed a late chance.
Subs:
Yannick Carrasco 8 – His pace helped change the game. Threatened Danilo and Carvajal down the left and stole in to smash home the equliser.

Real Madrid
Keylor Navas 6 – Wonderful save from Griezmann’s offside effort, but he wasn’t to know the Frenchman had strayed. Perhaps the fact he saved a penalty earlier this season had an impact on tonight’s spot kick?

Dani Carvajal 6 – Booked in the first 10 minutes but managed the game well. Came off in tears five minutes into the second half and might well miss the Euros.

Pepe 5 – A trademark brainless tackle gave away a penalty however Griezmann allowed him to get out of jail, big time. Brought out the oscar winning acting as the game dragged on as he tried to get Filipe Luis sent off.

Sergio Ramos 8 - Just as he did in Lisbon he popped up with an important goal, albeit he looked a good yard offside. Has now scored in two Champions League finals, which is quite the achievement for a centre back.

Gareth Bale 8 – Excellent. Looked lively from the off. Won the free kick for the goal and also almost set Casemiro up early doors. Some questionable tumbles that another ref may have said were bookings for simulation but was his side’s main threat.

Karim Benzema 5 – Should have sealed the win one-on-one but was denied by Oblak. Subbed.

Cristiano Ronaldo 5 – Was he on the pitch? Did not do much apart from miss a relatively simple chance.
Subs:
Danilo 6 – Brought pace to the right hand side going forwards, however a couple of defensive clearances left a bit to be desired.

Isco 6 – Fresh legs in the middle of the park.
Lucas Vazquez 6 - offered pace and directness going forwards that Benzema did not.
