This is what is giving Chelsea the edge this season - Rio Ferdinand

RIO FERDINAND believes Chelsea are flying this season because they are not playing in Europe.
The Blues secured their eight Premier League win in a row yesterday with a 3-1 victory against Manchester City to secure their spot at the top of the table.

Chelsea got off to a bad start at the Etihad, with Gary Cahill’s own goal putting Manchester City ahead.

But second-half strikes from Willian, Costa and Hazard secured a resounding win for Antonio Conte’s side.

And Ferdinand has heaped praise on Conte for turing around the fortunes of the club this season.

It's a testament to the management of Conte to get his identity on this team," Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“The intensity that they're performing under at the moment is unbelievable.

“There's a big contrast to last season, and this formation that they've got, he's drilling them week in, week out.

"Not playing in Europe I think is giving them the edge.

“He's been able to work on the training field and got [his] ideas across, and they're going out there now and they're putting teams to the sword.

"I mean, they've gone to the Etihad and absolutely destroyed this Manchester City team."
