Manchester City to Spend £200m on Lionel Messi : Messi could force free transfer and earn £85m

LIONEL MESSI could be rewarded with a staggering signing-on fee at Manchester City if he quits Barcelona for free.
Messi's contract at Barcelona expires in 2018 and Manchester City are reportedly interested in his signature.

Barca are yet to open fresh talks over what would be Messi's eighth contract at the Nou Camp club, with officials supposedly getting nervous over the situation.

The Sunday Mirror claim City are willing to spend over £200m on the Argentina intentional if he became available.

They value Messi at around £100m, with the rest set aside to pay his £500,000-a-week wage demands.

But Spanish newspaper El Mundo claim Messi could earn even more money if he waits for his contract to expire.

Messi's father, who controls the player's finances, would be free to begin negotiations with other clubs as early as January 2018 - six months before Messi's contract expires.

It is claimed City would have to be willing to hand the 29-year-old an £85m (€100m) signing-on bonus.
That's because they wouldn't have to pay Barcelona anything on a free transfer by waiting a further year to get their man.

City manager Pep Guardiola is supposedly keen to be reunited with Messi, who excelled under the coach when he was in charge at the Nou Camp.

Barcelona are hopeful they can financially match any offer City put to Messi, with president Josep Maria Bartomeu's new £200m shirt sponsorship deal with Rakuten now in place to start next season.
