England to announce Gareth Southgate appointment on Monday: Chelsea No 2 to follow

ENGLAND are formally expected to confirm Gareth Southgate as their new manager on Monday, according to reports.
Southgate was interviewed at the beginning of the week.

The meeting, Express Sport understood, lasted several hours and the issue of player discipline cropped up after Wayne Rooney courted negative headlines.

Southgate, who has been working in a caretaker role for the past four matches, looks to have landed the job.

The Sun claim Southgate is expected to put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

It is thought the FA’s finance committee will have a conference call at the weekend to confirm Southgate’s contract details.

The report suggests Southgate will earn approximately £1.3million a year with subsequent bonuses if England book their spot at the 2018 World Cup and then reach the knock-out stages.

On the subject of Chelsea assistant boss Steve Holland, the report indicates he will be allowed to work as Southgate’s No 2.

The FA, it is believed, have granted Southgate his wish, however English football’s chief governing body must agree a compensation package with the Blues first.

Southgate is widely expected to axe Rooney as skipper.

England - who drew 2-2 in their last match - a friendly against Spain, play Lithuania in their next World Cup qualifier on March 26.
