West Ham 2 - 1 Chelsea : Hammers stun in-form Blues to reach EFL Cup quarter-finals

WEST HAM sealed their place in the EFL Cup quarter finals with an well earned 2-1 win over London rivals Chelsea.
N'Golo Kante almost gave Chelsea the perfect start after eight minutes when he was released clear by Willian but his shot was pushed away by Darren Randolph.

And he was made to pay three minutes later when Dimitri Payet's corner cleared was cleared but Mark Noble crossed from the left and his ball was glanced into the net by Cheikhou Kouyate.

Nathaniel Chalobah then tested Randolph with a fine shot from 25 yards out before Begovic made two stops to deny Payet and then Obiang.

Michy Batshuayi and Oscar had opportunities before the break to equalise but couldn't get their efforts on target.

And Chelsea's poor finishing was punished again three minutes after the break when Edimilson Fernandes cut inside wing-back Ola Aina and drilled a left-footed strike into the bottom corner.

Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and Pedro were brought on to save the match in the second half by Antonio Conte.

Hazard hit the post and Costa chipped wide when clean through.

Chelsea did get a late consolation in stoppage time when after a scramble in the box, the ball fell to Gary Cahill and he lashed a shot past Randolph.

The closing stages of the match were marred by violent clashes between fans in the stands with police and stewards were forced to intervene.
