The Upper Room daily devotional: Title - NEVER FORGOTTEN

Read Joshua 1:7-9
Jesus said, “Look, I myself will be with you every day until the end of this present age.”
- Matthew 28:20 (CEB)

While walking along the lakeside of our local county park, taking photos of the beautiful landscape, and enjoying the sunshine and warm breezes, I noticed something lying in the dirt. It was a child’s tiny toy truck — rusty, dented, apparently abandoned and forgotten by its young owner.

As someone struggling with depression, I can often feel the same way: cast aside and forgotten. But God’s word reminds me that’s not so!

After Moses died, leaving Joshua with the overwhelming responsibility of leading the Israelites into the Promised Land, God encouraged Joshua by promising: “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you.”

And in John 14, Jesus prepared his disciples for his imminent departure. “Do not let your hearts be troubled,” he told them (v. 1); and a little later on, he promised, “I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you” (v. 18).

At times, we may feel as though no one cares about us, making us think we have been abandoned and forgotten. But we can take comfort in the truth of God’s promise never to leave us or forsake us.

Thought for the Day:

Because God made me, God never forgets me.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for your loving, faithful presence in our lives, even when we can’t feel you here with us. Amen.

Prayer Focus: SOMEONE STRUGGLING WITH DEPRESSION
