The Upper Room daily devotional: AWAKE

Read Proverbs 3:1-6
He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade at your right hand.
- Psalm 121:4-5 (NRSV)

Our plane was gliding over patches of clouds. After a little while, the crew announced that because of weather, the flight might be bumpy, but there was no reason to panic. However, I had never been so scared during a flight. I leaned back and closed my eyes.

Suddenly, today’s verse echoed in my ear, and I felt something different. Ah! It is God’s presence! It was so different, so comforting and lively.

I started thinking about the pilot who was awake while the passengers were sleeping. He was alert and controlling the aircraft.

Our heavenly Father, Creator and Pilot of the whole universe, never sleeps nor slumbers. We can lean on God without fear. If we surrender ourselves to God’s hands, God will faithfully lead us even when we are not sure of the path ahead. I am thankful for God’s word and for God’s eyes upon each of us until the end of our life journeys.

Thought for the Day:

Even when the path seems unclear, God faithfully leads us forward.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to lean on you and to trust in your promises. Amen.

Prayer Focus: PILOTS AND AIRCRAFT CREWS
