Super Eagles’ Coach, Gernot Rohr, has voiced concern over Ahmed Musa’s lack of playing time at Leicester City and may even seek talks with Claudio Ranieri.
Rohr, who became Super Eagles’ coach in August, will first speak to the players that he thinks are being affected by the competition for places at their Premier League clubs – which also include John Obi Mikel.
Musa has fallen out of favour at the King Power Stadium since the arrival of record signing Islam Slimani. The Nigerian has missed out on selection in the Foxes’ last two games, although he kept his place in the Nigeria squad for their recent international against Zambia.
“It is not the best situation a manager will hope for two of his senior players,” Rohr told Owngoalnigeria.com. “But we understand that they play for teams that have high competition for places. We will however in the coming days have a chat with them on the way forward.
“If needs be, talks with their respective managers will also be a welcome idea. For now we will stay put and see if they get games before our next game.”
Rohr has also revealed that one of his assistants, Salisu Yusuf, will soon be offered a new contract by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), reports completesportsnigeria.com.
Yusuf, Rohr’s most senior Nigerian assistant, is currently working with the national team without a contract.
“On the contract of the Nigerian coach, I want to tell you that the federation president (Amaju Pinnick) and I went to some places on Tuesday and what I get is positive,” Rohr said.
“I have been assured that in the next few days Salisu Yusuf will sign his contract as chief coach of the Eagles and he would be paid his wages like us. The federation and the minister now have a strong solidarity and this is good for the team to succeed. Yusuf’s contract will be done today or tomorrow.”
The German coach who has won his first two matches in charge of the Super Eagles added that he is enjoying working with Yusuf and the other Nigerian coaches on his staff.
“We have a strong bond as a team and we work hard to get result,” Rohr said. “We relate as a family, we try to be friends with the players and officials, and we respect each other.
“The assistants I brought with know we have to work closely with the Nigerian officials like the other coaches, medical team, coordinator, media man and equipment manager. We did not come here to lecture but to help them grow and get the results for our team. We are one happy family; I am satisfied with the cooperation I am getting
