RAFA NADAL has been ruled out of the ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena in London.
The Spaniard rushed himself back into action for the Olympics and admits it's caused him pain since.
Nadal won gold with Marc Lopez in the men's doubles in Rio, but missed out on a bronze medal to Japan's Kei Nishikori in the men's singles.
He competed in Shanghai last week - won by Andy Murray - but struggled and lost his opening match to Viktor Troicki.
The 14-time Grand Slam winner missed the French Open and Wimbledon this year through injury and has now announced his season is over.
He will miss the Swiss Indoors in Basel, the Paris Masters, and the ATP Finals.
"It is no secret that I arrived to the Olympic Games short of preparation and not fully recovered, but the goal was to compete and win a medal for Spain," he said on Facebook this evening.
"This forced recovery has caused me pain since then and now I am forced to stop and start preparing the 2017 season.
"I am very saddened for not being able to play next week in Basel since I have a great memory of the tournament and the final played against Roger Federer last year.
"I won’t be able to compete either in Paris-Bercy, where the crowds and the FFT staff have always treated me so well.
"Now it is time to rest and start preparing intensively the 2017 season."
