NPPFL: Rivers United Coach, Stanley Eguma thanks River State Government for last season

Head coach of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma, has thanked the Rivers State Government for their new lease of life and promised to do better in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) next season.
The Port Harcourt team finished second last season, behind winners Enugu Rangers.

Eguma insists his players performed beyond expectations, after struggling to remain in the topflight two seasons ago.

“We had a season to remember last season,” Eguma told Goal.

“We were not expected to be among the frontrunners by virtue of the way we struggled at the beginning of the season but we were still in contention for the league title with two matches remaining and also stayed on top of the league log for appreciable period of time.

“We are grateful to the support from the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike after he turned our season around.

“We have the best welfare package under him and my players do not need to sleep outside the government house again before being attended to.

“We are very sure we won’t disappoint in the 2017 Caf Champions League with people like Wike around to support the team’s quest.”
