Willian has signed a new improved contract at Chelsea which will tie him to Stamford Bridge until 2020.
The four-year deal worth £120,000-a-week is reward for the Brazilian’s exceptional form last season and proves he will be an integral part of new manager Antonio Conte’s future plans.
It also ends the notion the striker might be tempted by a possible reunion with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United and will go down as another success for Chelsea’s negotiators.
Willian, Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois and Diego Costa have been persuaded to stay despite interest from elsewhere and the absence of Champions League football next season.
The Brazil international was one of very few positive aspects of a disastrous title defence and cleaned-up at the club’s player of the year awards.
After signing the contract extension, Willian said: ‘I’m very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea. It’s a dream to continue with this club and over the next four years I will try to help the team win more trophies.
'It’s been an amazing time for me since I joined the club three years ago, I’ve won titles and last season I was named Chelsea Player of the Year.
Technical director Michael Emenalo added: ‘We are very pleased to agree a new long-term deal with Willian, who has proved himself to be an important player for the team since he arrived here.
We are looking forward to seeing his continued impact as we begin an exciting new campaign under first-team head coach Antonio Conte.’
Willian reported back for pre-season this week following the disappointment of an early exit from the Copa America.
He started all three of Brazil’s games in the USA but they failed to make it past the group stage.
The 27-year-old had two years left to run on the £85,000-a-week contract he signed in August 2013 when Chelsea beat Tottenham in a late dash to complete a £32million transfer from Anzhi Makhachkala, in Russia.
The step to the Premier League quickly helped him secure a regular place in the Brazil squad and was selected for the World Cup in 2014.
On his return to London, he missed only two of the 38 games in Chelsea’s title winning campaign of 2014-15 but it was last season when he started to started to excel with a series of tireless and consistent performances.
