In its continuing bid to reposition the Nigeria Police Force, in line with the vision of the Acting Inspector General of Police (Ag.IGP) Ibrahim Idris, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion and redeployment of 18 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), to Zonal commands.
The Commission has also appointed 37 CPs, as recommended by the Ag.IGP.
These facts were contained in a statement issued yesterday, in Abuja, by PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani. It indicated that the AIGs and CPs, as approved, would be deployed to the 12 Zonal Commands, as well as, head other special formations and state Commands across the country.
Those promoted include former Commissioner of Police Kaduna State, Ibrahim Adamu, is now AIG, Zone 1, Abdulmajid Ali, former CP Ogun State is now AIG, Zone 2, Usman Tilli, former AIG Border, is now AIG zone 3 and AIG Dorothy Gimba retains her Command of the Investment Formation.
AIG Mohammed K. Mohammed, Special Protection Unit (SPU) and Mohammed Musa Katsina moved from Maritime to DS, National Institute for Policy and Strategy Studies (NIPSS), and former CP Benue Paul Okafor is now AIG Maritime Desk.
Others are; AIG Agboola Oshodi Glover, now to head zone 4, AIG A. K. Shodipo former CP Bayelsa now to head Zone 5, AIG Abubakar Marafa former Niger CP, now to be in charge of Zone 6, former CP Federal Capital Territory Usman Alkali Baba, is now AIG Zone 7, AIG Tijjani Baba for zone 8, and AIG Karma Hassan CP Anambra is now. AIG Zone 9.
The statement said: “the Commission also approved the appointment of 37 Commissioners of Police, including nine Deputy Commissioners of Police whose promotions were approved by the Commission.
“16 of these Commissioners retained their Commands, including CP Peace Ibekwe Abdallah Ebonyi, Emmanuel Ojukwu, Enugu, Frederick Taiwo Lakanu, Imo, Adeleye O. Oyebade, Oyo; Basen D. Gwana, Abia, Yunana Y. Babas, Taraba, Austine I. Iwar, Gombe, Murtala U. Mani, Akwa Ibom and Ajani Fatai Owoseni, Lagos.
