Trusted lieutenant Rui Faria has become the Red Devils' assistant manager.

Mourinho first met Faria at Barcelona before he worked as Mourinho's fitness coach during his time in charge of Uniao de Leiria in Portugal and followed him to Chelsea (twice), Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

Silvino Louro, who has been with Mourinho for more than a decade having started out as his goalkeeping coach, has also been named as one of four coaches joining the Portuguese at Old Trafford.

Ricardo Formosinho and Carlos Lalin - who also have previous experience working with the Portuguese - and Emilio Alvarez have all been confirmed as members of the coaching staff along with analyst Giovanni Cerra.

United's confirmation that Mourinho has called upon his trusted advisers comes after the former Chelsea manager told the media at his first press conference that Ryan Giggs' departure 'was not his responsibility'.

During his introductory press conference at Old Trafford on Tuesday, Mourinho insisted the fact Giggs coveted the manager's job meant it was always going to be hard for the former winger to stay at the club.
