Confirmed: Stoke sign Joe Allen from Liverpool in £13million deal

STOKE have completed the signing of midfielder Joe Allen from Liverpool on a five-year deal.
The Wales international spent four seasons at Anfield after switching from Swansea for £15million, and leaves to join compatriot Mark Hughes at Stoke in a £13m deal.

The 26-year-old, who only had a year remaining on his Liverpool contract, was open to staying but Reds manager Jurgen Klopp could not guarantee him regular game time.

Allen was said to be keen on making a return to boyhood club Swansea this summer, but the south Wales outfit were unwilling to meet Liverpool's asking price.

Allen, who has committed his future at the Britannia Stadium until 2021, said: “It’s been a whirlwind 48 hours for me but I am delighted to have finally been able to put pen to paper.

“I was really excited as soon as I heard of the Club’s interest and it wasn’t a difficult decision for me to make."

While Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes added: “Joe is a player that Mark has admired for a considerable amount of time.

“Therefore when we became aware of the possibility of bringing him to the Club it was something that we were determined to do.

“We have had to act swiftly to conclude the deal but we are delighted that we have managed to get it over the line.”

And a Liverpool statement read: "Joe Allen has today completed a permanent transfer from Liverpool to Stoke. Everyone at Liverpool wishes Joe the best of luck in his future career."
