Barcelona sign Andre Gomes from Valencia for £41.7m, beating Juventus and Real Madrid to Portugal midfielder

Barcelona have agreed a £41.7million deal with Valencia for Portugal midfielder Andre Gomes.
The 22-year-old was wanted by Juventus as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba.
The Italians made further enquiries on Thursday but are to miss out on the starlet to the Spanish champions.

On Thursday night, Barcelona’s official Twitter account tweeted: ‘The player will both sign and be presented as a new Barcelona player next week.’

Real Madrid, Manchester City and  Inter Milan had also been monitoring the 2016 European Championship winner only to be foiled by the reigning La Liga champions.

Spanish daily Marca reported on Tuesday that Zinedine Zidane was willing to pay £50m to make the youngster his first signing - excluding Alvaro Morata's return from Juventus.

Gomes becomes the Catalan's fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Denis Suarez, Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne.

The midfielder made 77 appearances for Valencia in two seasons after joining from Portuguese side Benfica. He has also earned 13 international caps with Portugal in less than two years.
