'I was always the guy that promoted it and said you’ve got to use condoms, this and that,' he said, adding 'I was too drunk or too bored one night and here we are.'
While he publicly disclosed his diagnosis back in November, the former Two and a Half Men star is still adjusting to his predicament.
'People say, ‘What does it feel like to be the face of HIV?’. I’m like, ‘Euugh, unintentional’. But if that’s the reality of it, then so be it.'
Still, Charlie seems to be attempting to use the diagnosis as a catalyst for turning his life around.
After a public meltdown, Charlie left the enormously lucrative and popular Two and a Half Men
'I have mad gratitude, 100 per cent. Thank you. My life is more fluid, it’s more courageous, it’s more heroic,' he said.
While he voluntary went public with his positive status, the news seemed to have the predictable consequence of imposing celibacy on the notoriously debauched star.
'HIV is not the best pick-up line. So it has happened as a result of everybody else and myself having the knowledge, and that’s fine,' he explained, though he then added 'I make jokes about the diagnosis because you have to. Otherwise it’s just "awkward city."'
Luckily, it seems the Hot Shots star has discovered an unexpected bonus stemming from his current lack of sexual activity.
'You’d be amazed how much more you can accomplish and how much more you can learn when you’re not just trying to have sex.'
His new mindset has led Charlie to be philosophical about the future of his sex life as well.

Of course, as he moved on to other topics during the interview, more of his controversial points of view were vocalized.
When his upcoming film Nine Eleven, about the September 11th terrorist attacks in New York City, was mentioned, he couldn't help but talk about the 'truth.'
'It’s bizarre. You have to take everything you have ever known about simple physics for one day and put it on its ear. And then on the 12th you can believe what you used to,' he said, implying the World Trade Center towers were not in fact felled by airliners.
'Once you leave America, you can have a dialogue about this that isn’t complete blasphemy.'
The Hollywood vet also touched on the subject of his latest financial endeavor, which sees him taking on the role of condom spokesperson for the new Lelo Hex condom brand.
Some have said he was a curious choice given his history, but Charlie has his own perspective.
'OK. I get that part of the argument. That’s cool. If not me, who? I can say to guys, ‘Spend the extra two seconds, walk through the awkward moment and you can avoid a lot of fricking distress’.'
