BARACK Obama has launched a scathing attack on Donald Trump for “offering fear” in order to become the US president.
The current President told the Democratic Party convention in Philadelphia the businessman is “not a plans guy or a facts guy”.
He accused the billionaire of running a “deeply pessimistic” campaign where the US “turns against each other and turns away from the world
He said: “What we heard in Cleveland was not particularly Republican, it was a deeply pessimistic vision of a country where we turn against each other and turns away from the world.
“The Donald is not a plans guy, he is not really a facts guy either, he calls himself a business guy, that is true, but I have known plenty of successful businessmen and women who have not left a trail of lawsuits.”
He added: “Does anyone really believe a guy who spent 70 years on this Earth showing no regard for other people, is going to be your champion, your voice.”
Obama continued to take aim at the hotelier, mocking his catchphrase “make America great again”.
He said: “America is already great. America is already strong. And I promise you, our strength, our greatness, does not depend on Donald Trump.”
The President said Clinton has “real plans to address concerns,” then added: “And then there’s Donald Trump”.
He then told seething Democrats: “Don’t boo, vote.”
Obama gave a full-hearted speech in support of Hillary Clinton in an attempt to give her the edge over Trump
He said: "She has never forgotten who she is fighting for.
"There has never been a man or woman, not me, not Bill (Clinton) - nobody more qualified than Hillary Clinton to serve as president of the United States."
Obama finished his speech by saying: "Do for Hillary clinton what you did for me, carry her like you carried me.
"Reject cynicism and reject fear and elect Hillary Clinton as the next president of the US."
After Obama's speech, Clinton joined him on stage where they hugged and waved to the crowd.
Obama and Clinton were rivals during the 2008 Democratic nomination but Obama appointed her his secretary of state after he was elected as President.
