Leicester City striker, Jamie Vardy has revealed one of the main reasons it took him so long to break into top level football, playing non-league football until he was 25 before exploding onto the scene with Leicester City.
At the launch of his V9 Academy - set up to discover non-league talent like himself - he explained why he had been refused a professional contract as a teenager.
He said: “[I was told I was] Too small. That was the reason I was told, yeah. Too small, not ready for the physicality of scholarship football.
"I’ve said it before, I don’t think anyone can be told if they’re good enough when they’re 15 or 16 years old when you’ve got many years to grow and develop.
"That was my reason and there’s probably been hundreds that have been told the same and they’ve had to drop down as well.”
Jamie Vardy's 24 league goals this season have helped Leicester City to an incredible Premier League title, wrapping up the trophy with two games to spare after Spurs failed to beat Chelsea last Monday.
