ARMS SCANDAL: METUH'S TRIAL SUFFERS SETBACK AS THE ACCUSED VOMITS IN THE COURTROOM

The corruption trial of the Spokesperson of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh, was stalled and then adjourned by the Federal High Court in Abuja, following the signs of ill-health exhibited by the embattled Scribe.

Metuh, who is being tried for allegedly receiving N400 million of government arms money, had been scheduled to appear before Justice Okon Abang for the continuation of his trial.


At the resumed trial on Thursday, Metuh was said to have shown symptoms of ill-health as he repeatedly vomited at the premises of the court.

His lawyer, Emeka Etiaba, prayed the court to adjourn the case to enable the PDP spokesperson, who was apparently unwell, return to the hospital.

Consequently, the prosecution counsel, Sylvanus Tahir, did not object to the application, as Justice Abang adjourned the case till May 23 and Metuh was immediately returned to the hospital.

In a similar development, it was learnt that Metuh requested that the court grant him permission to travel to the United Kingdom for five weeks on medical ground.

Speaking on his behalf, Etiaba (SAN) is seeking the release of his client’s travel passport for that purpose.

The court had, while admitting Metuh to bail on January 19 this year, ordered him to submit his passport to the court as part of the conditions for the bail granted him.

However, in the application, Metuh said his decision to seek treatment abroad was informed by the advice of a neurosurgeon at the National Hospital, Abuja, following the injury he reportedly sustained after falling from a chair at the party’s national secretariat on April 26.
